FCL containers (FCL = full container load) come in standard 20ft containers and 40ft containers. Freight forwarders use several container dimensions for sea container transport. These can be bought or hired from the shipping company for ocean-going transport.
Other options for sea container transport are available to some destinations, for example high cube (40ft extra high) or 45ft (extra long). Further options include refrigerated/freezer containers, as well as open top and flat racks.
Charges for sea container transport are calculated per item with additional charges for currency, bunkers, ISPS, Panama, Suez etc., as well as for THC (terminal handling charges). The advantage of moving your shipment in a shipping container is that the cargo is moved from the place where it is loaded to its destination without further handling, and your shipment arrives safely.
